Collaborating with Professionals: Therapies that can help
The therapies, supports, and interventions shared on this website are provided for informational and educational purposes only. They are intended to help families learn about the wide range of approaches that may be available—not to recommend, endorse, or discourage any specific therapy. Every child with autism and PDA is unique. What is helpful for one person may be ineffective, or even unhelpful, for another. There is no single “right” approach, and no therapy should be viewed as a guaranteed solution or as something every individual should pursue.
That said, when seeking help from professional agencies, it is always helpful to find those who are “trauma-informed” or well versed in the treatment of children with “demand avoidant” profiles.
Trauma-informed Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) Therapy
Occupational Therapy- with experience in emotional regulation
Neurofeedback
Animal Therapy/ Equine Therapy
Aquatherapy
Play Therapy- (I have heard of this one being useful when the therapist comes to the home and can practice trauma-informed therapy)
